Andy McKee: The Man with Ten Hands
September 26th, 2007Andy who? That’s exactly what I said when my cousin told me about an awesome guitar player he’d seen. Until then, I’d never heard of his name or his music. Still trying to convince me to listen to this Andy guy, my cousin sent me links to a couple of YouTube videos in which Andy is playing.
I forgot about the links that he sent and didn’t visit them until I absolutely had nothing else to do. But when I did see the videos, I was convinced. He really is an awesome guitar player. His style reminds me a bit of Tuck Andress’s acoustic version of Man in the Mirror. You don’t believe me? Check out the clip below and judge for yourself.
If you didn’t see the video, would you believe that only one guy with two hands was playing that music?
So Who’s Andy McKee?
Here’s a short bio I grabbed from Wikipedia.com:
Andy McKee (born in Topeka, Kansas, in 1979) is an American acoustic guitarist currently signed to CANdYRAT Records. His rarely-seen style of playing and compositional talent has earned him a large fanbase; in late 2006, a live performance of his flagship song, “Drifting” became a Featured Video on YouTube, achieving over 7,000,000 views and peaking as the highest rated music clip on the site. The video was also featured on the front page of MySpace in July of 2007. Many of McKee’s other songs have experienced similar success on YouTube, such as “Rylynn” and “Africa” (the latter a Toto cover). McKee is currently on a world tour promoting his music, including his latest album, Gates of Gnomeria, which was released on September 10, 2007.
Like his music and style (you don’t have to like his hair)? Visit his Web site at www.andymckee.com. Enjoy!
